How Much Does a Stairlift Cost?
The honest answer: it depends on your stairs. Here's exactly what moves the price, so your quote makes sense before we ever walk in the door.
What changes an installed stairlift price
1. Straight vs curved stairs
This is the biggest factor by far. A straight stairlift uses a standard rail cut to length. A curved stairlift needs a rail that follows every turn — more parts, more engineering, more cost.
2. Length of the staircase
Longer stairs need more rail. Most homes fall within Harmar's standard straight rail length.
3. Which model
The SL300 is our best value. The SL600 adds a bigger seat, 350 lb capacity and a lifetime motor warranty. The UP handles curved stairs.
4. Options
An automatic folding rail, key lock, extra remotes or a retractable belt can be added if your home or rider needs them.
Stair shape has the biggest effect on price, followed by rail length.

Ways to make a stairlift more affordable
- Choose the right model, not the fanciest. We'll tell you if the SL300 does the job.
- Two straight lifts vs one curved lift. For stairs with a flat landing between two straight flights, two straight lifts can sometimes cost less than one curved lift. We'll price both.
- Check your benefits. Medicare generally does not cover stairlifts, but some Medicare Advantage plans, VA programs, state waiver programs and long-term-care policies may help. Ask your plan — we're happy to provide a written quote and product information.
- Tax questions. Home accessibility equipment is sometimes deductible as a medical expense. Ask your tax advisor.
